Location: Rochester, Kent Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience – to be confirmed Employment: Permanent, Full-Time Working Environment: Established, independent, family-run engineering business
A proper engineering company. A great team. A place to build a long-term career.
Are you an experienced Toolmaker who takes genuine pride in your craftsmanship? Would you enjoy working in a well-equipped engineering workshop where your skills are valued, your experience is respected, and you're treated as an individual rather than just another employee?
We're recruiting for a highly respected, independent precision engineering and toolmaking business in Rochester, Kent.
Established over 55 years ago, this is a genuine family business, now run by the third generation of the founding family. They've built an enviable reputation for quality engineering, technical expertise and exceptional customer service.
But perhaps the best indication of what they're like as an employer is that most of their employees have been with them for more than ten years.
This is a close-knit, friendly team of experienced engineers who enjoy what they do, take pride in their work and support one another. It's the sort of company where people join and stay.
They're now looking for a skilled, practical and enthusiastic Toolmaker to become part of that team.
This is a varied, hands-on Toolmaking position, primarily focused on the manufacture, maintenance, modification and repair of precision injection mould tools.
You'll work on a wide variety of bespoke engineering projects, producing high-quality tooling and precision components for customers across industries including automotive, aerospace, medical, pharmaceutical and general manufacturing.
Unlike a repetitive production environment, the work here is varied and technically interesting. You'll have opportunities to use your engineering knowledge, problem-solving abilities and practical skills across different projects.
Working alongside experienced colleagues in a well-equipped workshop, you'll be involved in taking tooling projects from engineering drawings through manufacture, assembly, fitting and testing.
Manufacture, assemble, maintain, modify and repair precision injection mould tools. Work from engineering drawings, specifications and technical instructions to produce accurate, high-quality components. Use a range of conventional and CNC machining equipment to manufacture and finish tooling components. Carry out precision fitting, bench work, polishing and assembly of mould tools. Diagnose tooling problems, identify their causes and undertake effective repairs or modifications. Work with colleagues to support new tooling projects, existing tool maintenance and customer requirements. Inspect and measure components to ensure dimensional accuracy, tolerances and quality standards. Contribute practical engineering ideas and solutions to improve tooling performance, reliability and manufacturability. Maintain high standards of workmanship, workshop safety and equipment care. What We're Looking For
We're particularly interested in speaking with experienced Toolmakers who have a strong grounding in traditional engineering skills and a practical understanding of precision manufacturing.
Proven experience as a Toolmaker, preferably specialising in plastic injection mould tooling. Strong practical experience in tool manufacture, fitting, assembly, maintenance and repair. Confidence reading and interpreting engineering drawings and working to close tolerances. Experience using conventional machining equipment, such as milling machines, lathes and surface grinders. Familiarity with CNC machining, spark erosion or wire EDM would be advantageous. Good mechanical aptitude and the ability to diagnose and resolve tooling problems. A methodical approach, attention to detail and genuine pride in producing high-quality work. The ability to work independently when required, while being a supportive member of a small team. A recognised engineering or toolmaking apprenticeship would be an advantage, but we're equally interested in people who have developed their expertise through years of practical experience.
Most importantly, we're looking for a proper hands-on engineer who enjoys toolmaking, takes ownership of their work and wants to be part of a good team.
